10 Reasons You Should Watch Outlander

There’s no hiding the fact that I’m obsessed with Outlander – Seriously I know the episodes so well my mum thinks I’m crazy.

I’ve read the books and watched then tv shows again and again. I also tell everyone I know to watch it too. So since I’ve watched so many times and its one of my favourite shows I thought I’d share 10 Reasons why you should watch it too.

A little info on the show first. Its a period drama / historical / time travel / romance type show. Yes it crosses over a lot of genres but these are some of the shows best aspects.

Starting in 1945 ex war nurse Claire Randall is on a second honeymoon with her husband in Scotland. While visiting the standing stones of Craig na dune she is transported back in time to 1743. There she is met with unfamiliar ways of life and unfamiliar people mainly a gang of Scottish highlanders. Thus starting a journey to get back home to her own time. Not before falling for sexy highlander Jamie Fraser. Now Claire is torn between 2 men in two very different times.

Now into its 4th season which started last night. Claire and Jamie story has went through 2 thousand years and so much love & loss.

The History

Being from Scotland I knew most of the history of the Jacobite Rising but I didn’t know it that well. While Outlander isn’t exactly historically accurate, the adaptation of the time & how people lived during that time is. As well as the majority of the Jacobite rising is very accurate. Outlander does an amazing job of showcasing Scotland’s History.

While including a lot of Scottish History Outlander also includes a lot of beautiful Scottish scenery. It’s made me want to get out & explore more of Scotland.

The Sexy Scot

Sam Heughan brings Jamie Fraser to life and he looks good doing it. If thats not one reason to watch it I don’t know what will.

The Story

The story of Claire and Jamie and the Journey they take together is lovely. It’s not just a boy meets girls & they fall in love type of story. It’s an emotional rollercoaster. You feel like you’re going through it with them. Warning there will be tears.

The Accents

I’m from Scotland, I have a Scottish accent & I hear Sottish people speak every day. But there’s something about the Scottish accent in Outlander that just makes you fall in love with it. I think it’s the use of Gaelic and the roughness of it that makes it all the better.

Once the show goes into Season 2 Claire and Jamie head to Paris for the first few episodes. This is where the wardrobe department pulled out all the stops. Claires gowns in these episodes are so beautiful and regal. Throughout the whole 3 seasons it amazes me just how much detail goes into all the outfits and how accurate they are to each period.

Its based on Books

Outlander is based on the book series of the same name by Diana Gabaldon. Which I might add are fantastic books on their own. It is one of the best book to tv adaptations I’ve ever seen. Plus there is 9 or 10 books which means there’s hopefully be more seasons to come.

The one liners

While Outlander at times is heartbreakingly emotional and will pull at your heart strings. There are a few one liners that will leave you laughing.

It transports you

For 45 mins to an hour you are transported into this story that captures all your attention. That’s something I’ve always loved about this show is that you can get completely lost in the story.

The Love

There is nothing stronger than Jamies love for Claire and Claire’s love for Jamie. These two will break your heart and make you feel their love all at the same time. They go through so much together sometimes its utterly heartbreaking and other times it complete & utter passion.

While this may just be a tv show it has become so much more than that. Each season gets better than the last. Watch it and You’ll love it.
